Wheeling’s First Families: “The Zane Family” by John Bowman

The February program will be a presentation by John Bowman. His topic will be The Zane’s Path to Wheeling in 1769. Mr. Bowman is a Wheeling historian, West Virginia History Hero, steamboat model builder, and the author of many articles and books that document Wheeling’s history.
From Bowman’s book Boat Building: Wheeling’s First Industry: “In the late summer of 1769, brothers Silas, Jonathan, and Ebenezer Zane left Red Stone Old Fort Pennsylvania and traveled over a path well known to frontier scouts, Indian traders and Indians alike, and made claim to land that would one day become Wheeling.”
