Popular speaker Margaret Brennan is a Wheeling native and local historian with a B.A. in History from Wheeling College, and an M.A. in History and a certificate in Public History from West Virginia University. She has taught high school social studies and worked in archival administration.
Her current research interests include Irish, Civil War, and Underground Railroad History, and an ongoing study of local frontier topics.
Margaret portrayed Betty Zane in the first Fort Henry battle reenactment in 1997 at WesBanco Arena.
She will present a program about the McColloch family, friends and relations by marriage of the Zanes, and among the first settlers in Wheeling. Major Samuel McColloch is remembered for his leap from Wheeling Hill during the first siege of Fort Henry in 1777. Many members of the family have played significant roles as members of county government and local militia units.
